The Gauge Coffeehouse & Humble Pie

The Gauge Coffeehouse & Humble Pie

The Gauge Coffeehouse is a casual place to start your day. They offer coffee drinks, homemade bagels and muffins. This is also the Chattooga Whitewater Shop where you'll find river gear, clothing and information about shuttle service to and from the river. Humble Pie Pizza is next door to The Gauge. It's a great place to unwind after a day exploring the area.

Chattooga Belle Farm

This is a wonderful place to walk around, eat lunch, pick fruit from the orchard, shop for souvenirs, sample distilled spirits, play ultimate frisbee. You can actually walk to Chattooga Belle Farm from Moresun Bunkhouse. Go down to the end of Kenneth Road (away from Hwy. 76), cross over a dam (there are no trespassing signs, but this is actually a public dam), and walk up to Chattooga Belle Farm and the Distillery. Takes maybe 30 minutes to walk there.

Brasstown Falls

Falls ranging from 20 to 40 feet. This is a wonderful outing because you can see four waterfalls within 30 minutes. The U.S. Forest Service improved the trails several years ago and they are well maintained. Getting there: Go right when the dirt road forks and continue to the parking area--which is very limited. The Trails: Take the first trail that forks to the left for a short family friendly hike to an impressive waterfall that has a shallow wading pool. From there you can walk back to the main trail and turn left to continue on and see three more waterfalls. This part of the trail has dozens of steps and several viewing platforms along the way. At the bottom of the trail, there's a nice shady wading pool below the lowest waterfall.

Reedy Branch Falls

This is one of the easiest places to view a waterfall. But parking is limited. It's an easy 5 minute walk from the parking area. A great place for young kids or people with limited mobility, though the trail is gravel and uneven. It's a scenic site to cool off on hot summer days.

Bulls Sluice

Bulls Sluice

This is a popular take-out point for people doing Section III of the Chattooga River. And also a put-in point for boaters/rafters doing Section IV. It's one of the more accessible places to hike into for swimming or viewing the river. From the parking area, go RIGHT on the trail to reach the Bull Sluice rapid--an impressive spot with huge boulders. A nice place to watching rafting trips run the rapid. Go LEFT on the trail to reach a sandy beach area.

Woodall Shoals Road

A popular put-in/take-out point for rafting/kayaking/canoeing trips. Also a great place to hike into the river and swim.

Long Creek Falls

Long Creek Falls

One of our family's favorite hikes! This wonderful waterfall flows directly into the Chattooga River. It's a moderate 40 minute hike (each way) and very steep for about 5 minutes getting down to river and back up. Not recommended for young kids or people with mobility issues.

Yellow Branch Falls

About 15 minutes away. You can hike to an awesome waterfall or picnic under a CCC-era shelter. The hike is approximately 40 minutes each way to and from the waterfall. Note: this site has become popular and gets overly crowded on weekends. Also, a large tree recently fell down at the base of the falls and obstructs the view a bit. But still worth going if you're the adventurous type.
